Ben Lomond Hill Race

Ben Lomond, United Kingdom • 9 May 2026

Event Details

The Ben Lomond Hill Race is a traditional Scottish hill race held on the slopes of Ben Lomond, Scotland's most southerly Munro. The race is limited to 100 participants to maintain safety and minimize impact on the hill.

The course is a single-distance event covering 12.6 km (7.8 miles) with 960 m (3149 ft) of ascent. It is categorized as an AM (Alpine Mountain) race. Registration and the start are in an overflow car park approximately 0.5 km before Rowardennan, Loch Lomond.

Requirements and Safety

Entrants must be confident, self-sufficient, and experienced in hill running. A strict halfway cut-off of 45 minutes is enforced; runners not reaching this point will be turned back. All participants must carry mandatory safety kit, including a waterproof jacket with hood, waterproof overtrousers, hat, gloves, and a whistle. Kit checks are performed at registration.

Food and water, including soup with vegan and gluten-free options, cakes, and fruit, are available at race control. A small, unattended bag drop area is provided. No changing facilities are available. Competitors must inform race officials if they do not start or retire during the event.

Course and Records

The race operates with permission from multiple land management bodies, and participants share the hill with other users. The current course records are held by John Wild (1:02:16, set in 1983) and Beverley Redfern (1:11:57, set in 1990). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
