National High School Trail Championships and Beas Knees Citizens Race
The National High School Trail Championships and the Beas Knees Citizens Race take place on July 25, 2026, on the Salida Mountain Trails in Salida, Colorado. The high school championship is open to current high school athletes, incoming freshmen, and 2025 high school graduates. There is no qualifying race. The championship will crown team and individual champions for girls and boys.
The Beas Knees Citizens Race is a community event on the same course and is open to all ages. Teams may form with up to five runners; the top three finishers on a team score. For the citizens race teams can be guys, girls, or coed.
The course is 5.4 miles of single track featuring switchbacks, sustained climbs and descents. The route starts on Poblano Trail, connects to Burn Pile Trail, follows CR 176 and Rusty Lung, reaches a high point near 7,558 feet at Lil Rattler, then descends Lil Rattler and Frontside Trails with a wider final quarter mile for passing.
Logistics and facilities include packet pickup at 7000 Feet Running Company (140 W. 1st St., Unit A) and awards at the Riverside Park band shell at the corner of F Street and Sackett. Parking is available across the bridge on North F Street and around Riverside Park. Riverside Park has porta potties and nearby boat ramp bathrooms. Light post race refreshments will be provided.
