Two Tunnels Railway Races
The Two Tunnels Railway Races take place in Bath and use the Two Tunnels Trails that run under the city. The route passes through the Devonshire Tunnel (408 m) and the Combe Down Tunnel (1 672 m). The organiser states these are the longest underground sections used in UK races for each distance.
The event base is Brickfields Park, Bath BA2 1LX. There is no on site parking; attendees using cars are asked to use Odd Down Park and Ride and the shuttle service. The nearest train station is Oldfield Park about 800 m away and Bath Spa is around 2 miles from the start area. Facilities on site include toilets, coffee and food vans, and a bag drop. There are no changing rooms.
Available race options include:
- Colourburst fun runs
- 5km
- 10km
- Half marathon
- Marathon
- 50km solo and 50km pair
- 5 x 10km relay
The 5km, Return Ticket 10km, Return Ticket Half Marathon and 50km are officially measured and the events are affiliated to UK Athletics. The marathon is not officially measured and is not eligible for London Marathon qualification times. Cut offs apply to some races: a 3 hour limit to start lap two of the marathon and an 8.5 hour cut off for the 50km. The organiser does not permit pure walkers but allows mixed run, jog and walk participation.
Drink and food stations vary by distance: there is no drinks station on the 5km; 10km has one feast station; the half marathon has three to five; the marathon and 50km have nine each. Stations offer water, electrolyte drinks and a mix of foods including gluten free, dairy free and vegan options. All runners of 5km and longer receive a 10 cm x 10 cm two sided event medal.
