Badwater Salton Sea is an extreme 81-mile (130 km) ultramarathon held in Southern California, starting from Salton City at 234 feet below sea level and finishing atop Palomar Mountain at 5,500 feet elevation. The course features over 9,000 feet of total elevation gain and includes a challenging mix of road and steep single-track trail running through Anza-Borrego State Park. Teams of two or three runners race together for the entire distance, supported by a crew and vehicle. Known for its harsh conditions, runners face temperatures exceeding 100°F (38°C) by day and freezing fog at night.
