Courses include typical desert trail conditions such as rocks, sand, cactus, and gravel. Course markings use orange plastic ribbons with black polka dots and colored laminated signs; each distance uses a specific color for turn signs and there is additional flagging to mark non-race trails.

Aid stations are placed roughly every 3–7 miles and provide water, an electrolyte drink, sweet and salty snacks, and fruit. The event is cupless; reusable cups are available at registration or runners may bring their own. Drop bags are allowed to selected remote aid stations for the 50 Mile and 50K distances; 35K runners have no remote drop bag.

Crews are allowed at the start/finish and some remote aid stations; pacers are permitted at specified aid stations for the 50 Mile and are not allowed for the 50K. The event uses chip timing, offers gender specific race shirts and finisher awards, and provides post-race food and staffed medical support. Park entry requires a vehicle fee.
