Akron Trail Marathon

The Akron Trail Marathon offers trail and towpath running through downtown Akron and Summit Metro Parks. The course begins at the Memorial Parkway trailhead, includes a short out and back into the city, follows the downtown locks and the Towpath Trail, and then continues onto rugged Summit Metro Park trails along the Cuyahoga River. A proposed full marathon route is pending final approval.

Distances include:

  • Marathon with over 2,000 feet of elevation gain
  • Half marathon mixing crushed limestone trail, rugged hills, and a hilly road section
  • 10 K with about 4 miles of crushed limestone trail and 2 miles of rugged hills

Water stops are planned as follows: about 6 to 8 on the marathon, 3 to 4 on the half, and 1 on the 10 K. Water and sports drink will be available at aid stations; snacks will be available at the Oxbow aid station for half and full marathon runners. Runners are advised to carry a handheld water bottle because midsummer conditions can be hot and humid. The organizers plan to minimize disposable cup use.

Awards are provided for first and second overall male and female in each distance, and for masters male and female in each distance. All finishers receive a medal. Price includes a medal and t-shirt; guaranteed t-shirt size cutoff is June 14. Packet pickup is to be determined. Registration is scheduled to open approximately January 30, 2026 and closes July 9, 2026 at 11:59 PM ET. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
