Airdrie Backyard Ultra

The Airdrie Backyard Ultra is scheduled for July 17, 2026 and uses the backyard ultra format: runners complete a 6.706 km loop each hour and continue until only one runner remains. Each loop must be finished within 60 minutes to continue.

The course starts and finishes in the grandstands of Ed Eggerer Athletic Park. From the track it follows a paved pathway around East Lake and passes through local neighbourhoods, allowing spectators in the grandstands to see much of the route. Stadium lighting is used if the event continues after dark.

Basic aid offerings (water, electrolytes, snacks) are available at the start/finish area each lap. Crews and spectators have access to Genesis Place amenities, and crews may set up in the designated infield between loops. Pacers are not allowed on the course.

Practical details include registration opening in November 2025 and closing on July 15, 2026. Parking is available at Genesis Place and adjacent lots. Recommended gear includes hydration, nutrition, extra clothing, and a headlamp if the event runs into the night. The race runs rain or shine and may be paused only for extreme weather such as lightning. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
