Airdrie Backyard Ultra

Airdrie Backyard Ultra takes place at Ed Eggerer Athletic Park in Airdrie, Alberta. The event uses a repeated loop of 6.706 km that must be completed within each hour; runners must start each new lap on the hour and continue until only one runner remains.

The course begins and ends in the stadium grandstands, then follows a paved pathway around East Lake and moves through local neighbourhood streets. Grandstand seating provides a viewing area for spectators and the stadium lights may be used if the event continues into the evening.

A basic aid station at the start and finish area will supply water, electrolytes, and snacks for each loop. Crews and spectators have access to amenities at the adjacent Genesis Place complex, and crews may set up in a designated infield between loops. Pacers are not allowed on the course.

Recommended mandatory gear includes hydration, nutrition, extra clothing, and items needed if the event runs into night such as a headlamp and jacket. The event runs in rain or shine; only extreme weather such as lightning may pause the race.

Registration opens November 2025 and closes on July 15. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
