Airdrie Backyard Ultra

Airdrie, Canada • 17 Jul 2026

Event

The Airdrie Backyard Ultra takes place on July 17, 2026 in Airdrie, Alberta. The event uses the Backyard Ultra format: runners repeat a measured loop until only one runner completes a loop more than all others. The official loop length is 6.706 km. Registration opens in November 2025 and registration closes July 15.

Format and course

Runners must complete each loop in less than 60 minutes to have that loop counted. Each new loop begins on the hour and all competitors must start together. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; all other competitors are recorded by the number of loops they completed and are listed as DNF if they do not outlast the eventual winner. If no participant completes one more loop than anyone else, there is no winner.

The course starts and finishes at the grandstands of Ed Eggerer Athletic Park and follows a paved pathway around East Lake and through nearby neighbourhoods. Basic aid station items such as water, electrolytes, and snacks are available at the start/finish area each loop. Crews may set up in a designated infield area; pacers are not allowed on the course and personal aid is restricted during a loop. The event proceeds in normal weather; extreme conditions such as lightning may pause the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
