Ȟaȟá Wakpádaŋ Loopet Loppet
The Ȟaȟá Wakpádaŋ Loopet Loppet is a trail event on October 17, 2026, held at the Trailhead in Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis. The event centers on celebrating Dakota people, land, and traditions along Ȟaȟá Wakpádaŋ, the Dakota name for Bassett Creek, and shares Native viewpoints through partner programs and an oral history podcast.
Participants may register for timed endurance formats that run on repeated 5-mile loops as individuals or as teams of four in a relay, plus an untimed one loop fun run walk and a free Little Loopet for young children. The Little Loopet course is about a half mile and children may run it multiple times.
Course logistics include a full ultramarathon style aid station between loops highlighting Dakota foods; past offerings included soup and cookies from Owamni and wild rice blueberry muffins from Powwow Grounds. Trailhead aid includes an electrolyte beverage provided by Tail Wind Endurance and a self serve water station at mile 3 of the five mile loop. Relay exchanges occur between loops.
Event facilities note a recommended parking area at Mortenson Parking Lot with limited parking at the Trailhead and extra bike racks at the Trailhead. Registration opens January 1, 2026. Proceeds benefit the Loppet Foundation. Awards for winners include pumpkins decorated by Little Loopet participants, and event swag is tied to registration deadlines and artist designed artwork.
