Ȟaȟá Wakpádaŋ Loopet Loppet

The Ȟaȟá Wakpádaŋ Loopet Loppet highlights Dakota people, land, and traditions along Ȟaȟá Wakpádaŋ (Bassett Creek). The event is a trail-based endurance format offered as timed 6-hour and 12-hour options for individuals and as relay teams of up to four. Participants complete repeated loops on marked trails that begin and end at the Trailhead in Theodore Wirth Park.

There are several course options and event formats:

  • 5-mile loop as the main course
  • 1-mile loop for the untimed Fun Run/Walk
  • Little Loopet for kids, about a half mile

A full ultramarathon-style aid station operates between loops and will feature Dakota foods. An electrolyte beverage station is available at the Trailhead and a self-serve water station is located at mile 3 of the 5-mile loop. Drop bag storage is provided at the aid station. Relay exchanges may occur only between loops. Pacers are permitted with limits on number and age.

Parking is available at the Mortenson Parking Lot with additional, limited parking at the Trailhead. Alternative options include biking and public transit. Registration for 2026 opens on January 1, 2026. Event proceeds support the Loppet Foundation. Awards and event swag are part of the day; winners receive a pumpkin decorated by the Little Loopet participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
