Ȟaȟá Wakpádaŋ Loopet Loppet

This trail event celebrates Dakota people, land, and traditions along Ȟaȟá Wakpádaŋ (Bassett Creek). It offers timed endurance formats and shorter, untimed options on multi-loop courses that start and finish at the Trailhead in Theodore Wirth Park.

Participants complete as many loops as possible on a primarily off-road course that includes a main 5 mile loop and a 1 mile loop. A kids Little Loopet uses a shorter loop of about a half mile. An untimed 1 Loop Fun Run/Walk follows the creek for a single loop.

Distances and formats include:

  • 12 hour individual effort
  • 6 hour individual effort
  • Relay teams of up to four runners
  • 1 Loop Fun Run Walk (untimed)
  • Kids Little Loopet about a half mile

Support on course includes a full ultramarathon-style aid station between loops that highlights Dakota foods; past offerings included soups, cookies, and wild rice muffins. A Trailhead station provides electrolyte beverage options and a self-serve water station is located on the 5 mile loop.

Pacers are permitted with limits on number per runner. Relay teams may exchange runners only between loops. Parking is available at Mortenson Parking Lot (700 Meadow Ln N) with limited Trailhead parking; extra bike racks are provided and bus service stops at the Trailhead. Proceeds support the Loppet Foundation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
