Weaselhead Flats : 5 Peaks Trail Running (Central Alberta)

This is the fifth and final race of the Central Alberta 5 Peaks Trail Running Series, held on the last weekend of September. The event takes place at Weaselhead Flats, a 237 hectare natural area in southwest Calgary. The course highlights autumn colors and passes through areas of local wildlife and plantlife.

Terrain includes hard pack and singletrack trails. Race distances and formats listed are:

  • Kids : 1 km
  • Kids : 3 km
  • Sport : 7.6 km run or hike
  • Enduro : 14.0 km run or hike

Packet pick-up is available at a local shop the day before and onsite the morning of the event. Washroom facilities are provided at the start and finish area. Parking is available in the Weaselhead Flats lot and on nearby streets. Spectators are welcome.

Course restrictions for safety: no dogs, no headphones, no strollers or baby joggers, and no nordic walking poles. The event is cup-free; water and electrolyte drink are provided at the start, finish, and at one or more aid stations. Participants expecting to be out longer than an hour should carry a receptacle for fluids and calories. Distances and maps may change based on trail conditions.

Awards: medals will be given to the top three finishers in each gender within each age and distance category, and to the top three male and female finishers overall. Trail runs nearby

Trail races at Sikome Lake in Fish Creek Provincial Park on May 9 offer multiple distances from kids races to 10.7 km. The event is cup free and provides aid stations, washrooms, parking and in person packet pick up.

The Powderface Marathon is a 5 Peaks favourite and a classic event. It features a marathon and half marathon on scenic singletrack in the Canadian Rockies' foothills. Only 150 total spots are available.

Singletrack trail event at Bowmont Park featuring punchy climbs, fast descents and Bow River valley views; distances range from 1 km to 11.7 km.

Iron Legs Mountain Races at Station Flats near Calgary features trail events from 25K to 100K. Courses follow Moose Mountain with substantial elevation gain and extended single track.
