5 Peaks Trail Running at Bowmont Park, Calgary

This event is part of the 5 Peaks Trail Running Series and takes place in Bowmont Park in northwest Calgary. The start and finish are at Varsity Village Park next to Christine Meikle School.

The course is singletrack focused and opens with the Sideshow Bob trail built into the side of a cliff, offering views of the valley and the Bow River. Runners descend into Dale Hodges Park, run east briefly, then loop west to connect to trails that run parallel to the Bow River and arrive at Silverthorn Park. Sport runners return to the start from there; Enduro runners complete an additional loop further east before joining the same final stretch. Expect many rolling hills, a few steep climbs and descents, and potential heat.

Event details and rules: the race is cup free so there are no cups at the start, finish, or aid stations. Water and electrolyte drink are available at the start and finish and at one or more aid stations on course; participants out longer than an hour should carry a receptacle for liquids. Dogs, headphones, and strollers are not allowed on the course; hiking poles are allowed only in non-competitive hiking categories. Washroom facilities are available at the start/finish area. Parking is limited. Swag and finisher medals are optional and not included with event registration. A fitness adventure at North Glenmore Park that places adults, kids and k9s on a military style obstacle course. The event focuses on varied terrain and unrevealed obstacles and lasts about two hours.
