5 Peaks Devon, Northern Alberta series finale

This event is the final race of the 5 Peaks Northern Alberta Trail Running Series and takes place in the Town of Devon, about 30 minutes south of Edmonton. The start and finish are at the Devon Lions Campground, located in a river valley with both single-track and hard-packed trails. Autumn river valley colours are noted as a visible feature of the course.

Available distances:

  • Kid's Race - 1 km
  • Kid's Race - 3 km
  • Sport Run or Hike - 8 km
  • Enduro Run or Hike - 16 km
  • Grit Run - 24 km

The course begins with a climb to the top of a ridge, then descends through single track to a bluff overlooking the campground. The final section includes about 2 kilometres of hard-packed trail along the river. The Sport course completes the loop once, the Enduro twice, and the Grit course three times. The 3 km kids race climbs the new River Valley Alliance Trail and finishes with a downhill into the line.

Logistics and rules: the event notes no on-site parking and recommends parking at John Maland High School with continuous shuttle loops to the start/finish. Washroom facilities are available at the start/finish. The event is cup free; water and electrolyte drink are provided at the start, finish and at one or more aid stations. Participants planning to be out longer than an hour are asked to carry a receptacle for fluids and calories. No dogs, headphones, strollers or nordic walking poles are allowed on course. Finishers of Sport, Enduro and Grit receive a finisher swag item; wooden finisher medals made in Canada are available for purchase. Awards are given to top three finishers by gender in each age category and to the top three overall and must be picked up at the race.
