3H Trail Half Marathon - King George, VA

Event information

The 3H Trail Half Marathon and Dahlgren Heritage Rail Trail 50K take place on August 8, 2026, in King George, Virginia. Both races start and finish at the UMW-Dahlgren parking lot at 4224 University Drive, King George, VA. Events included:

The half marathon entry fee is $70 and is open to ages 14-99. The 50K entry fee is $100; 50K registration ends February 1, 2026. Participant swag includes a custom finisher medal and a technical tank top or t-shirt; shirts are not guaranteed after July 21, 2026. Cash awards are offered for the top three men and women in each race and age-group awards are given by chip time.

Course and logistics

Both courses are out-and-back routes run almost entirely on the Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail, a converted railroad bed that is mostly flat and shaded. Surfaces include dirt, gravel, grass, and pine needles; some sections have roots and bog boards. The trail length is 16 miles and preserves 240 acres of land.

Aid stations and services: the half marathon has water at miles 3.3, 6.5, 9.8 and 12.2 and Gatorade at selected stations. The 50K has seven aid stations near miles 3.3, 7.9, 12, 15.5 (turnaround), 19, 23.1 and 27.7, with fluid-only points at miles 24.6 and 30.1; PB&J is available at miles 12, 19 and 27.7. Bag drop near the start supports two drop bags delivered to specified aid stations. On-course crew support is limited to the turnaround aid station. Previewing the course requires a free trail use permit. Races are cupless - reusable vessels are encouraged. Cutoff times are four hours for the half marathon and eight hours for the 50K; intermediate cutoffs will be enforced. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
