Windmill Way Wander

Windmill Way Wander is a road running event based at Suffolk Running Centre, Church Road, Bury St Edmunds, IP29 5AX. The event uses the Windmill Way route and Golding Hills and passes through the villages of Higham, Gazeley, Ashley, Dalham and Denham.

Distances offered include:

  • 5k
  • 10k
  • Half marathon
  • Full marathon
  • Ultra (repeated runs to the 5k turnaround point)

Those running distances under a half marathon follow an out-and-back route with a required turnaround. The half marathon is a single loop and the full marathon is two loops. The course is entirely on road, with rolling hills and an elevation of around 600 ft. The event gets its name from the windmill visible at Dalham and offers views toward Dalham Hall.

Logistics include Race HQ/Base Camp at the start and lap point, with a water and aid station at base camp and additional aid stations of drinks and nibbles approximately every 10 km. Parking is included in the entry price. Time cutoffs are used for the event, including a seven-hour overall cutoff and a five-hour option for a later start. The event is cupless; participants should bring their own bottles or cups for refilling. A bespoke finisher medal is provided, with a lucky dip finisher medal option available for some distances.
