Valley of the Owls Run : event description

The Valley of the Owls Run takes place around the village of Ousden and nearby countryside in Suffolk, with routes that include some of the oldest roads in England. The event base is at Suffolk Running Centre, Church Road, Bury St Edmunds, IP29 5AX. The course terrain is described as undulating and multi-terrain.

Distances offered:

  • 5k : Goldings Hills Route, out-and-back
  • 10k : Goldings Hills Route, out-and-back
  • Half marathon : Dalham Kiln one loop
  • Marathon : two loops of the half marathon route
  • Ultra : extends to the 5k turnaround point

Under-half distances follow an out-and-back format with a turnaround point. Aid stations offering drinks and nibbles are provided approximately every 10 km. The race headquarters and lap point include a base camp with water and aid provision. Parking is included in the entry price. Entrants receive an email confirmation and a link to a race briefing information pack after registration.

The event provides a bespoke event medal for finishers, with a lucky dip finisher option that uses medals from previous events when available. The event operates as cupless, so participants must supply their own bottles or cups for refilling. Maximum entries are capped at 300 and the minimum age is 18 years. A guided **10k** group trail run through High Lodge in Thetford Forest, led at a conversational pace on mostly flat woodland trails. The event allows two hours, has a £4 parking charge and an entry fee of £12.50.
