Zanfel Orienteering Race #2 at Conestoga Lake

The event takes place on April 18, 2026 at Conestoga Lake, 9799 West Pioneers Blvd., Denton, NE, with the east entrance by the dam and the east parking lot serving as the start and finish area. The advertised course distance is 15 miles and the event uses a three hour time cutoff.

The format allows solo competitors or teams of two or three people; teams may be male, female, or coed and should check in together. Participants will combine trail running with paddling by kayak or paddleboard around the lake. Teams need only one kayak or paddleboard and may switch paddlers along the route. Kayaks and paddleboards will be dropped at the east parking lot. While on a kayak or paddleboard a life jacket must be worn; participants will be disqualified if they are without a life jacket while paddling.

Registration opens December 12, 2025 and closes April 3, 2026. The entry fee is $40 per person and includes shirts, awards, snacks, and drinks. A park day pass can be purchased separately.

Maps and instructions are pre-plotted on CalTopo and punch cards and materials are handed out at check-in. The course runs largely on trails and through brush. Required gear includes a large zip lock bag for maps and materials, life jacket, cell phone, water, snacks, sunscreen, and tick spray. Handy GPS may be used for assistance. This is the second race in the Zanfel Series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
