Youngstown Ultra Trail Classic
The Youngstown Ultra Trail Classic takes place in Mill Creek Park, an urban park maintained by the Ohio Metro Parks system. The event utilizes a course that is 95% single track, winding through mature forests and passing landmarks such as lakes, waterfalls, and a historic mill. The terrain features a combination of short steep hills and segments of flat ground.
Participants can choose from two specific race distances:
- 25K
- 50K
The 25K course consists of a single loop around Mill Creek Park with approximately 1,397 feet of elevation gain. The 50K distance requires runners to complete this loop twice. The route begins at the Bresko Pavilion in the Wick Recreation Area and travels clockwise toward a covered bridge. After passing through the bridge, the course circles Lake Newport in a counter-clockwise direction before returning through the covered bridge and heading back to the finish line.
The course is marked with white ribbons, white plates for turns, and white paint arrows. There are two primary aid stations: one at the Covered Bridge and one at the Start/Finish line. These stations provide water, Gatorade, fruit, sandwiches, and snacks. Participation is limited to 250 runners, with 125 spots allocated to each distance. Finishers receive a running visor and a bumper sticker, while all participants receive a running shirt at check-in. Facilities at the site include flush toilets, porta-johns, and pit toilets.
