Trail Running at West Branch State Park
Best of the West takes place at the West Branch State Park Beach in Ravenna, Ohio. The event features trail races through a landscape characterized by oak-hickory forests with a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees. The dense canopy provides a shaded environment for participants as they navigate the routes.
The event highlights a section of the Buckeye Trail that has been designated as a State Trail by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The terrain serves as a habitat for various wildlife species, including deer, foxes, raccoons, and songbirds.
The following distances are available:
- 26.2 Miles (Marathon)
- 13.1 Miles (Half Marathon)
- 10K (Trail Race)
Participants in the marathon distance navigate around the eastern end of the lake, crossing the dam and reaching the campground entrance before returning to the beach. Those completing the half marathon reach a turnaround point and utilize a shuttle service to return to the beach area.
