Yakima Skyline 50K
The Yakima Skyline 50K is set for April 17 2027 outside Ellensburg, WA in and above the Yakima River Canyon on lands that were part of the ancestral home of the Yakama people. The race distance is 50K with approximately 9,200 feet of elevation gain and loss and a 12 hour cutoff. The event operates three full aid stations and one minimal aid station. Well behaved leashed dogs are allowed but the course can be hot, dry and rocky which may be hard on animals.
The course is an out and back on the Yakima Skyline Rim Trail. It is mostly single track with rocky and rough sections and a few miles on a ridge top jeep road. The route begins near the river valley at about 1,300 feet, includes sustained climbs of roughly 2,100 feet in a little over two miles and other long steep sections, and features a steep descent to the Roza Aid Station. Terrain includes high desert, sagebrush and exposed ridgelines with open views of the Yakima River and distant Cascade peaks.
Aid stations offer water, electrolyte drink, basic food items, some gels and first aid and menstrual hygiene supplies. All runners must carry at least 32 ounces of water on their person; equipment will be checked and failure to comply can result in disqualification. Parking is directed to a gravel overflow lot for Umtanum Creek Recreation Area. Free primitive tent and small RV camping is available on private start finish land with portable toilets only and no hookups. There is no crew access on course and drop bags are provided only at the Buffalo Aid Station. The race does not offer refunds; credits may be issued on a schedule based on cancellation timing.
