Yakima Skyline 50K - Ellensburg, WA

The Yakima Skyline 50K is a trail race held near Ellensburg, Washington, along the Yakima River Canyon on lands that are part of the ancestral home of the Yakama people and associated tribes and bands. The route is an out and back on mostly single-track trails with sections of rocky jeep road, and it includes long, steep climbs and technical descents. The course starts near the river valley at about 1,300 ft and features approximately 9,200 ft of elevation gain and loss over the 50K distance.

Aid support includes three full aid stations and one minimal aid station, located at roughly mile 8 (Roza), mile 15.5 (Buffalo), mile 23 (Roza), and mile 28 (minimal). Runners must carry the ability to hold at least 32 ounces of water at all times; failure to meet this requirement will result in disqualification. Cutoff times are enforced at the aid stations and participants who miss cutoffs may be removed from the course.

The environment is high desert and rainshadow; the route is exposed to sun, heat, wind, and occasionally cold conditions. Wildlife such as rattlesnakes may be present. Camping is available on private start/finish property with primitive sites and portable toilets but no water or hookups; nearby public campgrounds and lodging are also noted. The event is organized by Rainshadow Running. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
