Coal Miner

Roslyn, United States • 12 Sep 2026

Event Overview

Coal Miner is a trail running event taking place in Roslyn, Washington. The event has a self-supported philosophy, with minimal aid provided and no course markings. Participants should be prepared for a long, challenging day in the mountains.

Distance and Course

The single distance offered is 51.3 miles (approximately 82.6 km). The course has an elevation gain between 10,100 and 11,300 feet.

The route starts at Roslyn Pioneer Park. It connects Cle Elum Ridge with Sasse Ridge, summitting Hex, Sasse, and Jolly Mountains. Runners then descend Jolly Creek to the Middle Fork of the Teanaway River, follow it downstream, and use the Big Sandy Trails to return to the top of Cle Elum Ridge before finishing back in Roslyn.

Requirements and Details

A prerequisite for entry is completion of a hard trail 100k or longer race. Participants are required to carry a satellite messenger (like an inReach) with an active subscription.

An official finish is contingent on providing photographic proof at specific summits and submitting a GPX track of the run. A GPX file of the course will be provided before the event for navigation. Basic water and caloric offerings will be available at aid stations, but runners are expected to be largely self-sufficient. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
