Coal Miner

Coal Miner is a self supported trail ultramarathon in Roslyn, WA, featuring a single marked route of 51.3 miles with approximately 10,100' to 11,300' of climb. The course links Cle Elum Ridge with Sasse Ridge, summits Hex, Sasse and Jolly Mountains, descends Jolly Creek to the Middle Fork of the Teanaway River, follows that river toward its confluence with the West Fork, then uses the Big Sandy Trails to return to Cle Elum Ridge and back to Roslyn.

The start is at the southeast corner of Roslyn Pioneer Park, adjacent to a bathroom. Aid is minimal: water and basic caloric items are available as a supplement to participants' own supplies. There are no course markings and participants are expected to navigate using provided GPX tracks.

GPX tracks will be emailed at least one week before the event and must be preloaded into the participant's chosen mapping app; participants must use them for navigation and submit their GPX track after the race. Finish validation requires summit selfies at Jolly Mountain and other specified locations to confirm out and back segments. A prequalification of a hard trail 100k or longer is required and must be named for entry. Participants must carry an inReach or similar satellite messenger with an active subscription. Registration closes September 5, 2026. The organizer offers a full refund if a participant is not completely satisfied. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
