Coal Miner

Coal Miner is a self-supported trail event based in Roslyn, WA. The primary described course is 51.3 miles with between 10,100' and 11,300' of climb, depending on the mapping software used. The route links Cle Elum Ridge with Sasse Ridge, summits Hex, Sasse and Jolly Mountains, descends Jolly Creek to the Middle Fork of the Teanaway River, follows to the West Fork confluence, then uses the Big Sandy Trails to return to Cle Elum Ridge and back to Roslyn. The start location is the southeast corner of Roslyn Pioneer Park, at the Coal Mines Trail entrance; a nearby bathroom is adjacent to the start.

The event emphasizes self-reliance: there are no course markings and aid is minimal. Water is provided at aid stations and basic caloric items will be available, but participants should plan to carry the bulk of their supplies. GPX course files will be emailed before the event and must be preloaded into the participant's chosen mapping app for self-tracking on course. Entrants must carry an inReach or similar satellite messenger with an active subscription. Official finish verification requires summit selfies at Jolly Mountain and other specified locations and submission of the full GPX track.

Entry requires prior completion of a hard trail 100k or longer, which must be named on the entry. Refunds are offered in full if an entrant is not completely satisfied with the experience. Surprise swag will be provided from the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
