Teanaway Country 100M/50M/50K
Teanaway Country is a series of trail races in the Cascade Mountain Range in eastern Washington, with the race base near Cle Elum, WA at Salmon La Sac Sno Park. The courses are on US Forest Service land and travel through remote alpine terrain with rocky trails, long steep climbs, and large distances between aid stations.
Distances offered:
- 100 miles - out and back, 31,000 ft gain and loss, 12 aid stations.
- 50 miles - point to point, 16,000 ft gain, 6 aid stations.
- 50 km - lollipop route, 11,000 ft gain, 3 aid stations.
Aid stations are on average 8+ miles apart and the longest gap is 10.6 miles. Runners are required to carry specific safety gear including a pack or running vest, 30+ ounces of water, an emergency blanket or bivy, a waterproof jacket, and a headlamp. Organizers also recommend carrying at least 40 ounces of water and food for three to four hours between stations. Rescue could take many hours in this area and weather can vary from warm days to freezing nights with possible wind, rain, snow, or lightning. Possible wildlife encounters include rattlesnakes, black bears, cougars, and wolves.
There are aid station cutoffs and sweep procedures; if a runner meets all aid station cutoff times and completes the course they can receive an official finish time even if they arrive after the published finish cutoff. Pacers are permitted starting at Miller Peak (mile 46.3) and must be registered; pacers must not provide material support outside crew-accessible aid stations. Entry and qualification rules apply for 100 mile entrants, including previous race results and a trail work or donation requirement in the year prior to race day.
