Yakima Skyline 25K : Ellensburg, WA
The Yakima Skyline 25K is an out and back trail race held on lands that were part of the ancestral home of the Yakama people, located in and above the Yakima River Canyon near Ellensburg, Washington. The course covers 25 kilometers with about 4,700 feet of elevation gain and loss, beginning in the river valley around 1,300 feet above sea level and rising to ridge terrain.
Terrain is mostly singletrack with sections of rocky, rough trail and several miles on a ridge-top jeep road. The route is exposed with little shade and can be hot, dry, windy, or cold. Notable features include long climbs, steep technical descents, rolling ridgelines, canyon views, and fields of wildflowers when in bloom.
Aid is available at two stations: a fully stocked Roza aid station at about mile 8 and a minimal aid station near mile 12.5. There is an overall cutoff of eight hours and an aid station cutoff at Roza; runners not meeting cutoffs will be removed from course and transported to the finish. All runners must be able to carry at least 32 ounces of water on their person at all times. No drop bags or crew access are allowed due to remote road access.
Event logistics include free primitive tent and small RV camping on private riverfront property for participants, portable toilets, no potable water on site, and nearby campground and lodging options roughly 15 to 25 minutes away. Well behaved, leashed dogs are allowed but conditions can be difficult for animals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
