XTERRA World Championship
The XTERRA World Championship takes place from October 8 to 11, 2026 in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Races and event activity are based around Grindstone Lake Park with event celebration areas at Wingfield Park. The program spans multiple days and includes World Championship races for Elite, Age Group, and Youth divisions.
The event features off road triathlon formats and trail running. Documented race distances include:
- 5K Trail Run
- 1.5K swim, 27K bike, 10K run : Full Distance Triathlon
- 750M swim, 14K bike, 6K run : Sprint Triathlon
- 750M swim, 14K bike, 6K run : Open Sprint Triathlon
- 400M swim, 7K bike, 3K run : Super Sprint Triathlon
Event-scale details include more than 1,000 athletes from over 55 countries and an Elite prize purse of US$100,000. Pre-riding and practice access for bike and run courses is scheduled in the days before racing. Additional event elements include an expo, bike mechanic services, athlete check-in, welcome and awards ceremonies, community hikes, yoga sessions, and a shop hop. Parking is organized at Wingfield Park and the Grindstone Lake Disc Golf parking lot; shuttle service is planned for Saturday. Accessible parking is available. Multi-sport athletes are required to hold a USA Triathlon license; a single-event Bronze membership option is available. Historic water temperature for the same weekend in 2025 was measured at 63–64°F. Refund terms note a partial refund option for full triathlon entries if requested by August 31, 2026, with no refunds on or after September 1, 2026.
