XTERRA World Championship - Ruidoso, NM
The XTERRA World Championship is a multi day off road triathlon and trail run event held in Ruidoso, New Mexico from October 8 to 11, 2026. The main venues are Grindstone Lake Park for swim, bike, and transition activity and Wingfield Park for the event village, expo, and some ceremonies. The program includes World Championship races across Elite, Age Group, and Youth divisions and features an Elite prize purse of US$100,000. The event reports over 1,000 athletes from more than 55 countries.
Race formats and measured distances include:
- Full Distance Triathlon: SWIM 1.5K, BIKE 27K, RUN 10K
- Sprint Triathlon: SWIM 750M, BIKE 14K, RUN 6K
- Super Sprint Triathlon: SWIM 400M, BIKE 7K, RUN 3K
- Trail Run: 5K
Event week offers an expo, community rides and runs, yoga sessions, bike mechanic services, community hikes, athlete check in, welcome and award ceremonies, and volunteer opportunities. Bike and run courses are open for practice in the days before racing. Parking is organized at Wingfield Park and the Grindstone Lake disc golf lot, with a free shuttle service planned for Saturday.
