XTERRA World Championship
The XTERRA World Championship takes place in Ruidoso, New Mexico, situated beneath the Sierra Blanca range. This multiday event marks the 30th anniversary of the organization and features a variety of off-road sport challenges held at high altitude. The competition utilizes venues at Grindstone Lake Park and Wingfield Park, with courses characterized by dust, pine trees, and mountainous terrain.
Participants can choose from several off-road triathlon and trail running options:
- Full Distance Triathlon: Includes a 1.5 km swim, 27 km bike, and 10 km run.
- Sprint Triathlon: Consists of a 750 m swim, 15 km bike, and 5 km run.
- Open Sprint Triathlon: Features a 750 m swim, 15 km bike, and 5 km run.
- Super Sprint Triathlon: Comprises a 400 m swim, 7 km bike, and 2 km run.
- 5K Trail Run: A standard trail running race open to the public.
The event schedule includes community activities such as course reconnaissance rides and runs, yoga sessions, and mountain bike skills clinics. A welcome ceremony and athlete buffet are held at Wingfield Park, while awards ceremonies for various divisions take place at the Ruidoso Convention Center. All multisport participants are required to hold a USA Triathlon license.
