XTERRA World Championship
The XTERRA World Championship takes place in Ruidoso, New Mexico from October 8 to October 11, 2026. The event is organized by XTERRA and is based at Grindstone Lake Park with event activities and community programming also at Wingfield Park. The championship weekend registers over 1,000 athletes from more than 55 countries and carries an elite prize purse of $100,000.
The program includes multiple race formats and trail distances:
- Full Distance Triathlon: SWIM 1.5K · BIKE 27K · RUN 10K
- Sprint Triathlon: SWIM 750M · BIKE 14K · RUN 6K
- Super Sprint Triathlon: SWIM 400M · BIKE 7K · RUN 3K
- Trail Run: 5K
Across the multiday schedule, bike and run courses are open for practice on several days before racing. The weekend features community rides, runs, hikes, yoga sessions, an expo and bike mechanic services, athlete check-in, a welcome ceremony on October 8, and award ceremonies on October 10 and October 11. Parking and accessible parking are provided at Wingfield Park and Grindstone Lake, and a shuttle service operates on Saturday free to participants and spectators. All multi-sport athletes are required to hold a USA Triathlon license; a one-event Bronze Membership is available for single-race coverage.
