Cloudcroft Ultra 53K - Cloudcroft, New Mexico

The Cloudcroft Ultra features multiple trail distances on the Rim Trail (T105) in the Sacramento Mountains near Cloudcroft, at approximately 8,600 feet elevation. Courses run on shaded single-track and former rail-bed routes that pass through fir, pine and quaking aspen, with viewpoints over the Tularosa Basin roughly 4,000 feet below. The 53K is an out-and-back route with an added lollipop loop near the summit; the 9.5 mile and 4.75 mile races are out-and-back on the same trail. A 1 mile Kid’s Dash loops around Zenith Park and is designed for ages 13 and under.

The 53K uses multiple cut-offs at approximate locations: first near mile 13, second near mile 20, third near mile 26, and a final cut-off near mile 30. There are six aid stations on the 53K (stocked with water, sport drink, gels, snacks); drop bags are permitted at two locations. The 9.5 mile has two aid stations. Crew access for the 53K is allowed at Aid 1/6 (near Sunspot Hwy Rim Trail Parking #2) and Aid 3/4 (via Alamo Peak Road; a one-lane paved approach with a cattle guard).

Additional details include chip timing for all distances, packet pickup Friday evening and Saturday morning about 45 minutes before races, guaranteed shirts only if registered early, custom finisher shirts and medals for finishers, on-site pre- and post-race food with a $5 purchase option for non-racers, and a non-refundable registration policy.
