Event Overview

The Wrekin Fell Race is a fell running event organized by Telford Athletic Club. It is the final race in the Shropshire Winter Series, which is sponsored by The Outdoor Depot, Church Stretton.

Course Details

The race covers a distance of 5.5 miles with 1700 feet of ascent. It is categorized as a Fell Runners Association (FRA) Category A Short Race. All races start and finish at Ercall Wood Academy, Golf Links Lane, Wellington, Telford, where there is ample parking. A mandatory kit decision will be made on the day, so runners should be prepared with waterproof top and bottoms, hat, gloves, a bum-bag or backpack, compass, whistle, and map.

The event also includes the Ercall Hill Races for younger age groups, which is 2.25 miles with 416 feet of climb. Entry for this race is £2 on the day only, with cash payments accepted.

Participation

  • Wrekin Fell Race: Entry is £8.00 online. The minimum age is 17 (or older), with an under-20 age category for runners aged 18 or 19 on 31st December 2026.
  • Ercall Hill Races: This event is for under-14, under-16, and under-18 athletes, with a minimum age of 12 on 31st December 2026.

Awards

Prizes for the Wrekin Fell Race are awarded to the first three men and women overall, as well as to the first-place finisher in multiple age categories: U20, U23, O/40, O/45, O/50, O/55, O/60, O/65, O/70, and O/75. Finishers of the Ercall Hill Races each receive a Cadbury's Crème Egg, with additional prizes for the first three boys and girls in each age category. A multi distance running event along the River Severn between Ironbridge and Bridgnorth on 21 February 2026. Distances range from 9 miles to 37 miles with 9.4 mile laps and aid stations every 4.7 miles.

Tackle a 9.5 km off-road challenge with two laps around the scenic tracks of Kinver Edge. All finishers get goodies and a medal, with prizes for the top three in each gender. Registration is limited to 100 runners, starting at 09:30.

The Castle 2 Castle #Ultra is a 32-mile running challenge connecting Welshpool to Chirk. Starting at Powis Estate, the route mixes flat paths with gentle inclines. Finishers are rewarded with a commemorative plate at Caffi Wylfa.
