The 45th Wrekin Fell Race
The Wrekin Fell Race is a Fell Runners Association (FRA) Category A Short race taking place in Telford. Organized by Telford Athletic Club, the event serves as the final race in the Shropshire Winter Series. The course starts and finishes at Ercall Wood Academy in Wellington, where parking is available for participants.
The event offers two distinct distances:
- 5.5 miles with 1700 feet of climb, designated as an FRA Category AS race for participants aged 17 and older.
- 2.25 miles with 416 feet of climb, known as the Ercall Hill Races, open to youth categories from U14 to U18.
Participants in the main 5.5-mile race are required to be prepared with FRA Safety Equipment. This kit includes a waterproof top and bottoms, hat, gloves, a compass, a whistle, a map, and a bum-bag or backpack. A final decision regarding the mandatory carriage of this equipment is made on the day of the event based on conditions.
The Ercall Hill Races are open to runners with a minimum age of 12 by the end of the year. While the main race utilizes an online entry system, the shorter Ercall Hill Races accept entries on the day with cash payment. Prizes are awarded across various age categories, ranging from U20 to O75 for the main fell race, and for the top three boys and girls in each youth age group.
