World Help Turkey Wobble : Huntington Beach, CA
The World Help Turkey Wobble is a Thanksgiving morning event on the Huntington Beach coastline featuring 1K, 5K and 10K out-and-back routes. The courses are described as flat and run along the beach, passing the Huntington Beach Pier, the Surf Museum, and Main Street. The start and finish are on the sand of the multipurpose path at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Beach Boulevard.
The event partners with a humanitarian organization and directs a large share of funds to clean water projects. Eighty five percent of every dollar raised goes toward drilling water wells. Each well is reported to cost $5,000 and to provide safe drinking water to about 1,000 people for 10 to 13 years. To date the event has funded 76 wells and brought water to more than 66,000 people. The stated goal for this edition is funding 12 additional wells.
Logistics noted by organizers include on-site pickup of race numbers and shirts at check-in on the day of the event, available parking near the start area and on nearby streets, and an instruction that families using strollers should start at the back for safety. The event may convert to a virtual format if weather forces a closure; organizers will announce any change by November 25. Sponsorship levels and both team and individual registration options are offered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
