Winter's End - 50 Mile Ultra and Marathon

Winter's End is a trail event on the South Downs Way National Trail. It offers three distance options:

  • 50 Mile Ultramarathon
  • Marathon Option 1 Arundel to Queen Elizabeth Country Park
  • Marathon Option 2 QECP to Winchester

The 50 mile race is a point to point course that starts near Arundel in West Sussex and finishes at Winchester Athletics Track in Hampshire, following routes along the chalk ridge, passing villages and ancient woodlands. Marathon Option 1 follows the first half of the 50 mile route to Queen Elizabeth Country Park. Marathon Option 2 follows the second half from QECP to Winchester and passes landmarks such as Old Winchester Hill.

The event provides a fully marked course, well stocked aid stations with vegan options and PH 1000 electrolyte on course, two village hall checkpoints with toilets at points on the 50 mile route, on course photographers, bag drop at each start, and coach transport from the finish to the start locations for specified options. Runners can choose a bespoke finishers medal or opt to have a tree planted instead through Trees Not Tees.

Mandatory kit requirements include a headtorch or chest torch for 50 mile runners and any marathon runner likely to exceed seven hours, a jacket and a pack or belt for the tracker, and at least 500 ml of fluid. 50 mile runners will have a kit inspection before collecting race bibs. Cut off times are 13.5 hours for the 50 mile event and 8 hours for each marathon option. Entry costs are listed as £98 for the 50 mile and £52 for each marathon option.
