Winchester, United Kingdom • 21 Mar 2026

Event Overview

The Winter's End event takes place on the South Downs Way National Trail, offering participants a point-to-point journey through the South Downs National Park. The course follows historic routes and droveways along the chalk ridge, passing through ancient woodlands and picturesque villages in West Sussex and Hampshire.

Available distances include:

  • 50 Mile Ultramarathon
  • Marathon Option 1 (Arundel to Queen Elizabeth Country Park)
  • Marathon Option 2 (Queen Elizabeth Country Park to Winchester)

The 50 Mile Ultramarathon starts outside the market town of Arundel and finishes at the Winchester Athletics Track. Marathon Option 1 covers the first half of the ultra route, while Marathon Option 2 covers the second half, passing landmarks such as Old Winchester Hill and the Meon Valley.

Logistics and Facilities

The event features a fully marked course and a bag drop service where belongings are transported from the start to the finish line. Dedicated coach transport is available to move runners from designated parking areas in Winchester or Queen Elizabeth Country Park to their respective start lines.

Aid stations located along the route provide sweet and savoury snacks, vegan options, water, and electrolyte drinks. Participants should note that this is a cupless event. Two village hall checkpoints on the longer routes offer toilet facilities and hot food. Finishers receive a bespoke medal, or they may choose to have a tree planted through the Trees Not Tees organization instead.

All distances have specific cut-off times: 13.5 hours for the 50-mile race, 8 hours for Marathon Option 1, and 7.5 hours for Marathon Option 2.
