Course and location

The West Wight 3 Hills is a single-lap, multi-terrain race of 8 miles, with approximately 900 feet of ascent. The route passes Golden Hill Fort, Freshwater, Headon Warren, Alum Bay, Highdown, Tennyson Down and Freshwater Bay, finishing back at Freshwater. The course includes stiles and rough terrain and is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Entry, rules and facilities

The race is organised by Ryde Harriers from West Wight Sports Centre, Freshwater, PO40 9XH. Entry is limited to 175 runners and the minimum age is 16 years. Entry fees are listed as £14 affiliated / £17 unaffiliated (plus a service charge); on-the-day cash entry fees are higher. Numbers and timing chips are issued at registration. The event is held under UKA rules and carries a race licence number. The official finish time limit is 2 hours (15 min/mile pace). Refunds follow a stated policy: up to three months before 90%, up to two weeks before 50%, less than two weeks 0%.

Changing and shower facilities are available at the sports centre. Pay and display parking is at the venue, with limited free on-street parking nearby. In-ear and over-ear headphones are not permitted; bone-conducting headphones are allowed. Running with dogs is not permitted. Trail runs nearby

Choose a half marathon or 10K through Moors Valley woodlands with muddy trails, steep climbs and chances to spot deer and birds of prey. Finishers get a wooden medal and the course is fully supported and timed.

Take on scenic South Downs trails at Queen Elizabeth Country Park with routes for every level. Choose 21.6 km, 15.2 km or 7.9 km trail runs or join canicross and hikes, organised by UK Running Events.

Starburster is a twilight 5 or 10 mile run through Hurn Forest on 31 January, with out and back laps on firm forest trails beneath sunset skies. Head torches are required and 20% of entry fees support Forestry England for trail care.

Join WRNL 12 in Corfe Mullen for a 60 minute street and park score orienteering event based around the Dorset Soldier pub. SI timing, free parking and pub food on site. Juniors enter free; bring high visibility clothing and a torch.
