Winter Downs 200
The Winter Downs 200 is a continuous 200 mile trail run forming a large loop around the South of England. The route uses established long distance paths, including the North Downs Way, Vanguard Way, South Downs Way, Wayfarers Walk and St Swithuns Way. The event base is Juniper Hall near Box Hill in Dorking.
Runners have up to 96 hours to complete the single stage course. Live tracking is available across the entire event. Competitors may be accompanied by a crew and may use a drop bag at the three major aid stations. Those aid stations provide hot food and sleeping facilities, but the race clock continues to run throughout.
The course description notes typical winter conditions with long periods of darkness each day and undulating terrain, and it includes stretches between aid stations that can be lengthy. Route segments described in the course outline include 18 miles east on the North Downs Way to the Vanguard Way junction, around 45 miles south on the Vanguard Way to Alfriston, almost 80 miles west on the South Downs Way to Exton, 32 miles via Wayfarers Walk and St Swithuns Way to Farnham, and the final 25 miles returning on the North Downs Way to Juniper Hall.
The event is held under a UK Athletics permit granted through the TRA. The minimum age for entry is 20 years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
