Winter Downs 100
The Winter Downs 100 is a 100 mile (160 km) continuous trail run taking place 11 to 13 December 2026. The point to point route starts at Amberley Museum and follows the South Downs Way, Wayfarers Walk, St Swithuns Way and the North Downs Way to finish at Juniper Hall. The route is the same as the second half of the Winter Downs 200 and includes about 10,000 ft (3,050 m) of elevation. Terrain is approximately 84% trail and 16% road, with around 16 hours of darkness each day.
Runners have a 35 hour overall time limit. Entry is strictly limited to an anticipated field of 100 starters and the entry fee is £220. Applications must declare relevant running or multi-sport experience; organisers reserve the right to refuse entries. There are additional cut offs at every checkpoint and runners must meet these to continue.
There are three aid stations on course offering hot food and access to drop bags. Crews are permitted at designated crew points but are not allowed inside aid stations. Runners may spend a maximum of two hours at each checkpoint. Pacers are not permitted. The course is not marked with traditional event markings so runners must carry GPX files and navigation devices.
Mandatory kit includes a mobile phone, access to GPX, a battery pack (minimum 10,000 mAh), at least 1 litre water capacity, survival or bivi bag, waterproof jacket and trousers meeting specified ratings, warm mid layers, waterproof and spare gloves, warm hat, two headtorches of minimum 200 lumens with spare batteries, a red rear flashing LED, emergency dry clothing, a cup for hot drinks, a medical and repair kit, 400 calories of emergency food and £50 cash. Drop bags must be separate for each checkpoint, weigh 10 kg or less and be under 50 litres. Race medical cover is provided. Finishers receive a buckle and prizes are awarded by overall placing and veteran categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
