Wild Trail 5K & 10K

The Wild Trail event takes place at ThorpeWood in northern Frederick County, Maryland. This event provides a unique opportunity to run on private property that is generally not accessible to the public. Participation is open to members of the Frederick Steeplechasers Running Club (FSRC), with the event serving as a part of the FSRC Grand Prix competition.

The race offers two main distances:

  • 5 km
  • 10 km

The 5 km distance consists of a single loop through the natural terrain of the property. The 10 km course includes the initial 5 km loop followed by a separate, second 5 km loop. Both distances are approximate. The trails are marked with flags and ribbons to assist with navigation, and no specialized gear or previous trail experience is required. Participants should expect some mud on the course.

The event utilizes chip timing, with a manual backup system where volunteers scan bibs at the finish line. Water is provided for participants. Since the event is held on private property, there are no formal course previews available prior to race day. Parking is limited to designated spots on-site, and carpooling is encouraged. The race is organized through a partnership between the FSRC and the Merle Thorpe, Jr. Charitable Trust. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
