Event Details
The West Virginia Trail Fest is an annual trail running event held in May in Pocahontas County. The event includes several race distances: a 100K, a 50K, a 30K, a 5K, and a 1M Kids Run.
Race Courses
The courses highlight West Virginia's mountainous landscape and local history. They pass through state parks, the Monongahela National Forest, and near historic sites like the Cass Historic Railroad and the Green Bank Observatory. Some races involve climbing historic fire towers.
Individual Race Highlights:
- Dark Skies 100K: Features approximately 11,500 feet of elevation gain, summits two of West Virginia's highest peaks, and runs through three state parks. It finishes in Snowshoe Village.
- Full Moon 50K: A point-to-point race starting at the Cass Historic Railroad with about 6,300 feet of elevation gain. It also summits two of the state's highest peaks and finishes in Snowshoe Village.
- Stargazer 30K: Starts and finishes at Snowshoe Village with about 3,800 feet of elevation gain and includes a climb up a historic fire tower.
- Twilight 5K: An evening race starting and finishing at Snowshoe Village with about 650 feet of elevation gain.
Weekend Activities
Beyond the races, the weekend includes other activities. These may include a family movie night, a kids' activities area, a ride on the Cass Historic Railroad, a farmers market, a vendor expo, live bands, and an awards ceremony.
