West Virginia Trail Fest
West Virginia Trail Fest is a family-oriented annual trail running event held each May in Pocahontas County, West Virginia. The festival uses trails and roads around Snowshoe and nearby public lands, including Seneca State Forest, the Allegheny Trail, the Greenbrier River Trail, and areas near Cass. Courses
The 100K is a point-to-point course beginning at Seneca State Forest headquarters and finishing at Snowshoe Village. The route passes the Seneca fire tower, follows the Allegheny Trail and the Greenbrier River Trail to Cass, continues past the Green Bank Observatory to Hosterman, crosses a river on a swing bridge, and follows fire roads and single-track to Bald Knob - about 4,800 ft - then on to Snowshoe Village. Elevation gain is approximately 11,500 ft. Cutoff time is 20 hours.
The 50K is a point-to-point course beginning near Cass Scenic Railroad State Park and finishing at Snowshoe Village. The route follows the Allegheny Trail to Hosterman, crosses the swing bridge, and reaches Bald Knob before running around Snowshoe. Elevation gain is approximately 6,300 ft. Cutoff time is 13 hours.
The 30K starts and finishes in Snowshoe Village, uses single-track and fire roads around Snowshoe, and includes roughly 3,800 ft of elevation gain. Cutoff time is 11 hours.
The 5K starts and finishes at Snowshoe Village, uses bike trails on the resort, and has roughly 700 ft of elevation gain. The kids mile starts and ends at Snowshoe Village; participants receive a t-shirt and finisher medal.
Other weekend activities and highlights
Weekend activities include a movie night, kids activities, a ride on the Cass Historic Railroad, an awards ceremony, and a Mother's Day breakfast. The event highlights local features such as Monongahela National Forest, Cass Historic Railroad, the Green Bank Observatory, local fire towers, Snowshoe Ski Resort, and Pocahontas County.
