Weald Challenge
The Weald Challenge is a trail half marathon held in June from Chiddingly, Sussex. The course uses sections of the Wealdway and Vanguard Way and includes two checkpoints: Newplace park at 5.6 miles (9 km) and Scallow Bridge at 10.2 miles (16.1 km). The start and finish are at Chiddingly Primary School, Muddles Green, East Sussex, BN8 6HN.
The route begins with about 0.75 miles along a quiet country lane to spread the field and finishes with about 0.55 miles back along the same lane. Apart from those short lane sections, the route has a total of about 2.8 miles on roads, including one longer road section of about 1.2 miles on the return. To assist timing, the course now starts on the school car park and is roughly 200 metres longer than in prior years. Chip timing is used and runners are released in three waves, five minutes apart, based on estimated finish time. The time limit is five hours.
The course is mostly off road on public footpaths and may include uneven ground, steps, stiles (some of which may not be in good condition), mud and possible livestock. Participants are asked to follow the country code and may leave wrappings at checkpoints. Organisers provide water, bananas and oranges at the two checkpoints and the finish, a quality handmade event mug and a bespoke finishers medal unless the entrant chooses the Meals Not Medals option, whereby £4 is donated to Uckfield Foodbank. There is free car parking adjacent to race registration, first aid cover, and prizes for category winners. Bone conducting headphones only are permitted and dogs are not allowed. Deferrals and name transfers are accepted until 6 May 2026; there are no refunds. The event is organised by Uckfield Runners and is held under England Athletics rules with a Trail Running Association permit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
