Wasatch Trail Run Series – Brighton
The Wasatch Trail Run Series stages races at Brighton on July 29 and August 26. The event base is at Brighton Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon, with the course start at the Main Brighton Lodge, also known as the Alpine Rose. Brighton is reached by following Big Cottonwood Canyon about 14 miles from its start at Fort Union Boulevard and Wasatch Boulevard. The organizer notes that courses may be altered and GPX files are provided for each course.
Two course options follow mountain single track, dirt service roads, and resort access roads:
- Short Course: about 5.5 miles and 1,200 feet of elevation gain
- Long Course: about 7.5 miles and 1,500 feet of elevation gain
The short course climbs from the Alpine Rose to Dog Lake, continues on single track to a ridge overlooking the Heber Valley, and then descends onto a dirt road. About one mile down the road runners turn right onto single track that winds for more than two miles to the base of the Great Western lift before a final run to the finish area. The long course follows the service road to the base of Millicent, includes about one mile of sustained climbing on a service road, traverses the Millicent boulder field, reaches Lake Mary, skirts by Dog Lake, and climbs toward Clayton Peak before joining the same descent and single track to the Great Western lift.
