Wasatch Trail Run Series – Alta

This event uses Alta Town Park as the start and finish area and runs on single track and dirt roads in the Albion Basin and surrounding ridges. Alta is located at the end of Little Cottonwood Canyon, about 8.5 miles from the mouth of the canyon. Park in the Wildcat Base Area, the first parking lot when coming up the canyon. Dogs are not allowed in the canyon.

There are two course options:

  • Short Course: start at Alta Town Park, parking-lot loop, single-track sections.
  • Long Course: about 9.5 miles with 2300' of elevation gain.

Both courses begin with a parking-lot loop to thin the pack, then follow the Lower Albion Basin Trail into Snake Pit and the Home Run Trail. The route includes road crossings where runners must watch for vehicular traffic, sections of narrow single track with steep ledges, and downhill stretches on Catherine's Pass and Albion Basin Trail before returning to the town park. Water is available only at the start and finish, so runners are advised to carry a full hydration pack. Long course runners must reach mile 4 within one hour or be recorded as a DNF and are required to carry a headlamp. The final section retraces part of the earlier route back to the town park finish.
