Butterfield Canyon Marathon

The event is a trail running race that starts and finishes at Butterfield Trailhead Regional Park near the Kennecott Mine. The course uses single track trails through dense foliage and offers views of the surrounding mountains. The route includes steep rocky climbs and single track downhill sections.

The race offers two distances:

  • Marathon 26.2 miles
  • Half Marathon 13.1 miles

The course is well marked with pink flags, ribbons, signs, and trail marshals. Wrong way turns are marked with red flags. Aid stations are stocked with Tailwind, water, Honey Stinger gels and waffles, fruit, and assorted snacks. Live results and free race photos without watermarks are provided. Runners receive a locally made finisher medal, age division medals, and a race shirt. Overall awards include custom plaques and retailer gift cards for top finishers. Packet pickup takes place Friday at Salt Lake Running Company in Sandy and race day pickup is available early. Free parking is available around the pavilion. Post race food includes Great Harvest Bread offerings, chocolate milk, juice, and fruit. Volunteers receive a race credit for future events and access to finish line food.
