Butterfield Canyon Marathon, Herriman UT
The Butterfield Canyon Marathon and Half Marathon are trail races organized by Happy Trails Running that start and finish at Butterfield Trailhead Regional Park in Herriman, Utah. The event uses single track, fire road, and dirt road through wooded ridges and views near the Kennecott Mine area.
Distances
- Marathon - 26.2 miles, +4,556 ft elevation total
- Half Marathon - 13.1 miles, +1,950 ft elevation total
The marathon course is routed through a mix of smooth single track, rocky steep climbs, ridge running, and fire road sections; course composition for the marathon is 72% dirt trail, 17% fire road, 10% dirt road. The half course follows similar terrain with 81% dirt trail. Split segments and elevation details are provided for each aid station leg.
Safety and services include marked trails with pink directional flags and red wrong-way flags, trail marshals, and remote aid stations stocked with Tailwind, water, Honey Stinger gels and waffles, and fruit. A hydration vest or bottle is required for the marathon and strongly recommended for the half because aid stations are widely spaced. The event provides locally made finisher and age medals, a race shirt, free race photos, live results, and a post-race breakfast. Parking is available near the pavilion. Registration pricing varies by registration period. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
