Event Overview
The Butterfield Canyon Marathon and Half Marathon take place on August 8th, 2026. The event starts and finishes at Butterfield Trailhead Regional Park, near Kennecott Mine.
Course Description
The trail course goes through Butterfield and Yellow Fork Canyon. It features single-track trails with dense foliage and views of surrounding mountains. The route includes steep rocky climbs and downhill sections.

Registration and Packet Pickup
Registration has early, normal, and late fee periods. Packet pickup is available on Friday at the Salt Lake Running Store in Sandy, and on race day.
Participant Perks
All runners receive a high-quality race shirt and a custom locally made finisher's medal. A post-race breakfast includes items from Great Harvest Bread, such as sweet bread, pumpkin chocolate chip bread, chocolate milk, orange juice, and bananas.
Awards
Overall male and female winners receive custom plaques for first, second, and third place. Age division medals are awarded for categories from under 20 to over 70. First-place winners also get gift cards from Salt Lake Running Company.
Aid Stations and Course Marking
Aid stations provide Tailwind, water, Honey Stinger gels and waffles, fruit, and snacks. The course is marked with pink flags, ribbons, and signs, with red flags indicating wrong turns.
