Butterfield Canyon Marathon

The Butterfield Canyon Marathon takes place on August 8, 2026 at Butterfield Trailhead Regional Park, 8307 Herriman Hwy, Herriman, Utah. The event offers two measured distances and is organized by Happy Trails Running.

  • Marathon 26.2 miles, +4,556 ft elevation
  • Half Marathon 13.1 miles, +1,950 ft elevation

Both courses run primarily on single track and dirt surfaces with sections of fire road and dirt road. The marathon course is broken into three segments with notable climbs and descents; the first segment includes several miles of runnable single track and rocky steep climbs. Surface breakdowns are provided for each race and course segment distances and elevation changes are available from the organizer.

Aid stations are sparse due to the remoteness of the area. The marathon requires a hydration vest or bottle; the half marathon strongly recommends one. Aid stations stock Tailwind, water, Honey Stinger gels and waffles, fruit, and other snack items. The course is marked with pink flags, ribbons, signs, and trail marshals; wrong-way trails are marked with red flags.

Registered runners receive a high quality race shirt, a locally made finisher medal, free race photos, live results, and a post-race breakfast provided by Great Harvest Bread. Parking is available around the pavilion. Registration has tiered pricing and closes the night before the race. Races are capped to maintain limited field sizes.
