Cirque Series - Alta
The Cirque Series - Alta is a mountain running event held in Alta, Utah, located within the Salt Lake Ranger District of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The course covers a distance of 7.1 miles with a total vertical gain of 2,545 feet. The event is capped at 500 participants and features categories for Sport, Expert, and Pro runners.
The race follows a clockwise loop starting at the base of Goldminer's Daughter at an elevation of 8,650 feet. Participants run along the Transfer Tow and climb the Albion Meadows Trail through forests of subalpine fir, Engelmann spruce, and aspen trees. The route passes Alf's mid-mountain restaurant at 9,200 feet, where a strict 30-minute cut-off time is enforced.
The ascent continues past several ski lift lines to the top of Collins at 10,400 feet, which hosts an aid station. Runners then traverse toward Sugarloaf Pass and climb a steep ridge to reaching the summit of Mt. Baldy at 11,068 feet. This section includes loose rocks and requires the use of hands for the ascent. The descent follows the northwest ridge of Mt. Baldy, which may contain snow, leading to the top of the Wildcat Lift. The final segment follows service roads past the Watson Shelter aid station and the bottom of the Collins Lift to return to the original starting point.
