Big Cottonwood Canyon Classic
The event is a trail running event in Brighton, UT, staged at Brighton Ski Resort with course access near the Crest ski lift and Milly Chalet. The program includes both a half marathon route and a 5K route.
Distances
- Half marathon: about 12 miles and 3,500 feet of climb
- 5K: starts near the Crest ski lift and finishes on Brighton's Lake Mary/Catharine's Pass Trail
The half marathon route follows access roads and singletrack through Twin Lakes, SolBright, Kruzer, Honeycomb Return Road, Silver Fork Canyon trail, Lazy Prince, and Grizzley Gulch, traversing above and around Twin Lakes and Lake Mary before the finish. A reroute has been made to avoid a section of Honeycomb; the course now goes up and over into Little Cottonwood Canyon.
There is one aid station at the base of the Twin Lakes dam that competitors pass twice. On the second pass the aid station offers a wider selection of snacks and drinks including chips, Oreos, soda, grapes, oranges, bananas, peanut butter and jelly, water, and electrolyte drink.
Entry includes a race shirt, a finishers magnet, and entry into a raffle. Prizes are awarded to the top five men and top five women in both the half marathon and the 5K. Organized training plans are offered in one, two, and three month options with daily workouts and tracking sheets; plan fees are listed in the event information.
