Course, cutoffs, support, and policies
The 50K is a point-to-point mountain course that links Holbrook Canyon, The Great Western, Sessions Mountains, Mill Creek, Kenney Creek, and Mueller Park. An alternate 50K course may be used if trail conditions require it; the alternate uses an out-and-back first section (15.5 miles total) and finishes on a 16.3-mile loop at Mueller Park. The 50K lists about 8,600 feet of climb overall and about 6,084 feet of climb in the first 15.5 miles. The Mueller Park courses have about 2,516 feet of elevation gain. Trail surfaces are mainly dirt trails (about 80%), dirt roads (about 19%), and paved ground at start/finish (about 1%). The first 15.5 miles have only two limited aid stations and runners are expected to carry at least 2 liters of water.
The 50K has a strict 13-hour cutoff; other distances have an 8-hour allowance. Finishers outside the cutoffs receive a finisher award but no official time. The event does not offer refunds or transfers except a one-year deferment may be allowed for documented medical reasons requested one month before race day; event cancellations by authorities may result in a one-year moratorium for entrants. Volunteers who complete a full shift receive a free entry applied to a subsequent year; volunteers may not volunteer in the same year they plan to race.
