  • 4 km / 2.5 miles

The venue for registration and prize giving is Force Cafe on Stockghyll Lane. The race starts from the bottom of Stock Ghyll Lane behind the Salutation Hotel.

Course

The route is an out-and-back to the rocky summit of Wansfell. It begins on a tarmacked road, rises to a fell gate and includes a runnable section, a steep set of stone steps and open fell over rough grass to the summit. The summit is the only checkpoint; competitors are asked to follow the flagged route to and away from the summit. Descent is commonly taken to the right of the main path, rejoining the path near the bottom. The road sections at the start and finish remain open to traffic and will be marshalled.

Entry, kit and logistics

Pre-entry is required via SI Entries (entries open from 11 October; close at 18:00 on 26 December). Entry on the day is not available. Minimum age is 16 on the day. Full FRA kit is required and will be checked; required items include a waterproof whole-body cover with taped seams and attached hood, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food.
