Virginia Highlands Trail Running Camp
The Virginia Highlands Trail Running Camp is a three-day wilderness event held in the southern Virginia highlands region. Based at the Firefly mountain property at an elevation of 3,000 feet, the camp provides three nights of camping from Thursday through Sunday. The property features amenities including showers, toilets, electricity, running water, and a communal kitchen with a refrigerator. Due to the remote location, cell service is limited or unavailable on the property.
The program includes three organized group trail runs occurring on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings. These routes feature rocky climbing and significant elevation gain, with distances ranging between 9 miles and 12.5 miles per day. Specific planned distances include:
- 12.5 miles with 1,800 feet of elevation gain
- 10 miles with 1,600 feet of elevation gain
- 10 miles with 1,900 feet of elevation gain
Participants are responsible for providing their own food, meals, and snacks for the duration of the event. Transportation is not provided; attendees must arrange their own travel to the property and carpool to the various running locations. Registration includes a unisex T-shirt and access to professional event photography. Accommodations consist of tent camping or simple tiny cabins equipped with mattresses, though participants using cabins must bring their own bedding. Dogs are not permitted at the event.
