Vermont 100 Endurance Race
The Vermont 100 Endurance Race is an established ultramarathon held annually in July. Known as one of the oldest 100-mile races in the United States, the event has been running since 1989 and is part of the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning. A unique feature of this event is that it includes a concurrent horse race, making it the only remaining 100-miler to do so.
Participants can choose between two main distances:
- 100 miles
- 100 kilometers
The course traverses the southern Green Mountains, winding through a landscape of country roads and forested trails. Runners encounter a significant amount of elevation change, featuring approximately 17,000 vertical feet of climbing across the terrain. There is a 30-hour time limit for completion. The event typically accommodates about 450 runners and 70 horses.
The race is organized as a benefit event, with all proceeds supporting Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports. This organization focuses on providing sports and recreation opportunities for people with disabilities. The event also provides options for athletes with disabilities to participate, and runners may utilize crews and pacers during their effort. Aid stations are situated along the route to support participants, and drop bag services are available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
