Vallecito Lake Heavy Half

The Vallecito Lake Heavy Half is a loop race around Vallecito Reservoir in Bayfield, Colorado. The 2026 course runs clockwise and measures approximately 14 miles with about 1,000 feet of climbing. The route uses a mix of surfaces: roughly four miles of paved road, 3.5 miles of trails, and 6.5 miles of dirt and gravel road.

Runners travel north on County Road 501, pass the Kokanee Picnic Area onto a mile of singletrack along the east shore, follow Forest Service Road 603, cross private property on a designated right-of-way, and run across the top of Vallecito Dam before returning along the west-side singletrack to the finish. Mile markers are placed at each mile.

There are four aid stations starting near mile 3.5 that provide water and Tailwind; the last three stations also offer snacks. Vault toilets are located near miles 2.5, 8.5, and 12.5, in addition to porta-potties at the start and finish. The event is cupless; runners should bring their own bottles or soft flasks for aid stations that are on remote forest service roads.

Logistics include packet pickup on May 15 and May 16 at local locations and day-of pickup at the start line. Parking is in the Vallecito Church lot or PRID open space and all vehicles require a PRID use pass. The race enforces safety rules including staying on the right shoulder, obeying marshals, no dogs and no strollers. All net proceeds above event costs go to local nonprofits.
