San Juan Softie 100-mile Ultramarathon
The San Juan Softie is a mountain 100 mile ultramarathon held north of Durango, Colorado on August 14, 2026. The course runs across high alpine terrain and includes sections of the Colorado Trail and approaches to peaks such as Engineer Mountain, the Wilson group of 14ers, and Lizard Head.
The route is listed at approximately 104 miles with about 19,000 feet of total elevation gain and an average elevation around 10,282 ft. The highest point on the course is 12,438 ft on the Colorado Trail. The event uses a series of staffed aid stations that offer either full or basic services; some stations permit crew, pacers, or drop bags. Pacers are allowed beginning at Cross Mountain (mile 45.5) and at later designated aid stations.
Safety and navigation are emphasized. Course markings include pink ribbons and staked flags with reflective tape, and organizers provide GPX files and maps. Required gear includes a rain jacket, two light sources, gloves, whistle, hat, water capacity, and a cup or bowl; satellite tracking devices are required starting in 2026. Participants must be at least 18 years old. There is a 38 hour overall cutoff for the race.
