San Juan Softie 100 mile Ultramarathon

The San Juan Softie is a 100 mile mountain ultramarathon held near Durango, Colorado on August 14, 2026. The course is roughly 104 miles long, follows sections of the Colorado Trail, and passes near peaks such as Engineer Mountain, the Wilson group of 14ers, and Lizard Head. The highest point on the route reaches 12,438 ft and the course has about 19,000 ft of total elevation gain with an average elevation around 10,000 ft. Runners should expect long climbs and descents and the potential for variable weather at high elevation.

Aid stations are placed along the route and are designated as full stations with hot food or basic stations with more limited supplies. Crew access and pacer join points are available at several locations; pacers are allowed starting at Cross Mountain (mile 45.5) and may join again at Ryman Creek and Elbert Creek. Runners are limited to one pacer at a time and all pacers must complete a waiver and wear a pacer bib.

Required gear includes a rain jacket, two light sources, gloves, whistle, hat, water capacity, and a cup or bowl. Rain pants or a tracker may be required depending on conditions.
