Urban Environmental Challenge 10k

The Urban Environmental Challenge is a trail running event held in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, starting at the Tortoise and Hare statue. The event is presented as a rugged, technical trail race on the park's natural paths. The 10k course is run as two loops on the park's technical trails.

The event is scheduled to run rain or shine. Organizers state that COVID-19 vaccination is not required at this time and that participants who are unwell should remain at home; requirements may change as conditions evolve. A portion of registration fees supports the Van Cortlandt Park Alliance for trail maintenance and youth programs. All registered participants receive a race souvenir.

Awards for the 10k include a cake for the overall male and female winners from a named sponsor, with second and third place finishers and age group winners receiving muffins from the same sponsor. Public transportation options include the 1 Train to 242nd Street with a short walk, and Metro-North service to Marble Hill with an approximate 1.5 mile jog to the start. Free parking is reported to be available at the Van Cortlandt Golf Clubhouse and along Broadway.
