Urban Environmental Challenge

The Urban Environmental Challenge takes place in historical Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. This event features a technical trail race that navigates rugged paths through the park's natural terrain. The course includes hills and off-road sections located away from heavily used paved areas.

The event offers two distinct distances:

  • 10 km trail race for participants aged 14 and older
  • 0.5 miles Kids Fun Run

The 10 km race carries a registration fee with discounts available for participants between the ages of 14 and 18, as well as for Veterans. A portion of the proceeds is allocated to the Van Cortlandt Park Alliance to support trail maintenance and local youth programs. All registered participants receive a race souvenir.

Awards for the 10 km race include carrot cakes for the top male and female finishers. Second and third place runners, along with age group winners, receive muffins.

The event location is accessible via public transportation. Participants can take the 1 Train to the 242nd Street station or use the Metro North Hudson Line to the Marble Hill station. For those driving to the venue, free parking is available at the Van Cortlandt Golf Clubhouse and along Broadway. The race is held regardless of rain or sun.
