Spring SOMO Timed Trail Races

The Spring SOMO Timed Trail Races take place at the South Mountain Reservation in South Orange, New Jersey. The event is centered around a loop measuring 1.88 miles (approximately 3 km). All participants follow the course in a clockwise direction, starting on Bear Lane near the dog park parking lot.

The course terrain consists of a mixture of single track trails, pavement, and fire roads. From the starting area, the route travels down Crest Drive and the Crest Trail, transitions onto the Red Trail, and returns via the Bear Lane Trail.

Participants can choose from several distance and time-based options:

  • 3 km (1 loop)
  • 6 km (2 loops)
  • 1 hour timed duration
  • 3 hour timed duration
  • 6 hour timed duration

The timed formats allow runners to complete as many laps of the 1.88 mile loop as possible within their selected timeframe. This structure provides an environment for those seeking to complete specific distances, such as a trail marathon or a 50 km distance, by completing multiple rotations of the established course.
