Ultra Obscura
Ultra Obscura takes place June 13-14, 2026 at Mont Sutton in Sutton, QC. The event is organized by Sinister Sports and limits entries to 200 participants. The format uses six loops with multiple distance options and emphasizes strategy and decision-making rather than a single fixed distance.
The course is trail-only, with no asphalt, featuring technical and rugged sections and views of the Sutton mountains. The organizer highlights trail sustainability and a route designed to preserve the area. This is not a classic ultra-trail format; planning and decisions during the event are part of the challenge.
Distances offered:
- 10 km
- 24 km
- 42 km
- 52 km
- 66 km
- 84 km
- 84 km relay
The full 84 km course has 2,660 m of cumulative ascent and descent. The main transition area is at Mont Sutton; solo runners and teams may have a resupply bag there. The transition area is staffed and provides water and snacks. Aid stations are located roughly mid-loop at each stage; they are monitored, provide water and snacks, and prohibit dropping or retrieving gear. Support crews may use the transition area but should not join runners at aid stations.
Categories include female solo, male solo, mixed teams, female teams, and male teams; information for non-binary and transgender athletes is provided. Included items: a technical t-shirt, a pre-race meal, race photos, a custom medal, live timing updates, and medical support by first responders and paramedics.
