Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge
The Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge takes place on 18-19 July 2026 in South Wales, based at Penrice Castle basecamp. The event uses a figure-of-8 layout for the longest option and includes coastal, moor and woodland terrain within the Gower Peninsula, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Weekend camping is available at the Penrice Castle basecamp.
Distances and course format
- 100 km figure of 8 route with 50 km west and east loops, total ~2200 m climb
- 75 km figure of 8 (25 km west then 50 km east), ~1550 m climb
- 50 km western loop (~1200 m) or eastern loop (~1000 m)
- Marathon 42 km loop, ~900 m elevation
- 25 km west loop, ~550 m elevation
- 10 km loop, ~250 m climb
Support, safety and entry options
Rest stops are provided approximately every 12.5 km, with larger stops about every 25 km; stops include marquee cover, catering, seating, medical and welfare tents, and changing areas. The organiser provides GPS tracking via a mobile app, scanned timing at rest stops, medical teams, podiatrists and massage services, plus a 24-hour control room. Entry categories include self-funded places, charity-funded places, team entries, a dedicated Ultra March category for walkers, and a new Trailblazerz category for faster runners.
