Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge
The Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge takes place in South Wales, within the UK's first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The event features a landscape characterized by limestone cliffs, golden beaches, wild moors, ridges, and woodlands. The basecamp is situated at the historic Penrice Castle, which serves as the central hub for the various routes.
Participants can choose from several distance options, which can be completed by walking, jogging, or running:
- 100 km (Full Challenge) follows a figure-of-8 route with west and east loops.
- 75 km consists of a 25 km western loop followed by a 50 km eastern loop.
- 50 km options include either the scenic Western Loop or the Eastern Loop.
- 42 km (Marathon) is a single loop starting and finishing at the basecamp.
- 25 km West Loop.
- 10 km Loop.
The event provides extensive support, including a fully signed route with pink arrows and glow-sticks for night navigation. Marquee rest stops are positioned approximately every 12.5 km, offering food, drinks, seating areas, changing rooms, and medical services including paramedics and podiatrists. GPS tracking is available via a dedicated mobile app. At the finish line, participants receive a medal, a T-shirt, and a meal.
Optional camping packages are available at the Penrice Castle basecamp, featuring showers and chill-out areas. The event also offers specialized categories such as Ultra March for walkers aiming for specific time targets and Trailblazerz for competitive runners.
