Gower Coastal Trail Races

The Gower Coastal Races comprise three long distance trail running events that follow the Wales Coast Path within the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The races route along coastal and inland sections and crosses a mix of beaches, cliffs, marshes, farmland and villages. The minimum age for entry is 18 or older.

Distances

  • Gower Ultra 50 - full circumnavigation of the Gower peninsula
  • Gower Ultra Bach - 34 miles, joins the full route for the final section
  • Gower Trail Race - 23 miles, covers the later part of the 50 mile route

The route mainly follows the marked Wales Coast Path. Where the route leaves the Coast Path or at technically tricky sections there will be additional arrows or flags. Competitors must navigate using GPS, Wales Coast Path signs and the provided map with instructions. Key route features include cliffs above Limeslade Bay, Mumbles Pier, Swansea Bay coast path, Clyne Woods, the Loughor Estuary salt marshes, a five kilometre crossing of Rhossili Bay, Worms Head and a sequence of southern coast beaches including Port Eynon, Oxwich, Three Cliffs, Caswell and Langland before reaching Rams Tor.

Event support includes regular checkpoints with snacks and hot food, GPS tracking, finishers medal and finishers food, an on site running shop, event medical and safety cover and marshals. Optional event clothing is available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

Three coastal trail races of 32.5, 18.5 and 10 miles follow the Wales Coast Path along the Vale of Glamorgan, with waymarked routes, staffed checkpoints, and coach transport for the linear course finishing at Ogmore-by-Sea.

A trail event at Oxwich Bay offering a self-navigation half marathon plus marked 10 km and 5 km routes across coastal paths, woodland and sand dunes, with chip timing, a finisher medal and on-course water stations.

Experience a scenic 40 mile ultra marathon along National Cycle Route 8 from Glasbury to Merthyr Tydfil. This quadrennial event offers a well supported route through the Heart of Wales with unique finishers medals.

Experience a scenic 35 mile ultra marathon from Merthyr Tydfil to Barry Island. Following the National Cycle Route 8 to the coast, this four yearly event offers a unique journey through the landscapes of South Wales.
