Gower Coastal Trail Races
The Gower Coastal Trail Races consist of three long-distance trail running events located within the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The routes primarily follow the Wales Coast Path, navigating through a landscape of beaches, bays, coves, farmland, and fishing villages.
The event offers three distinct distances:
- Gower Ultra 50: A 50-mile complete circumnavigation of the Gower peninsula.
- Gower Ultra Bach: A 34-mile race that joins the main route at Weobley Castle.
- Gower Trail Race: A 23-mile race focusing on the final section of the course.
The Gower Ultra 50 begins on the cliffs overlooking Limeslade Bay, passing Mumbles Pier and following a flat path around Swansea Bay. The terrain transitions from the salt marsh flats of the Loughor Estuary to more technical sections including rolling cliff tops and a 5-kilometer stretch across Rhossili Bay. All three races eventually converge to follow the southern coast, passing through Port Eynon, Oxwich, Three Cliffs, Caswell, and Langland.
Participants are required to navigate using a combination of GPS, Wales Coast Path signage, and maps with instructions. The course is supported by regular checkpoints provided with snacks and hot food. For the Ultra Bach and Trail Race, an optional coach service to the start line is available for booking. All participants receive GPS tracking, a finishers medal, and finishers food. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
