Gower Coastal Trail Races
Mumbles, United Kingdom • 26 Sep 2026
Event Overview
The Gower Coastal Trail Races take place on 26 September 2026 on the Gower Peninsula. It features three long-distance trail running events along the Wales Coast Path.
Races and Distances
The event offers three distances:
- Gower Ultra 50: A 50-mile circumnavigation of the Gower Peninsula.
- Gower Ultra Bach: A 34-mile race covering the final two-thirds of the coastline from Llandimore to Mumbles.
- Gower Trail Race: A 23-mile race covering the last stretch from Rhossili to Mumbles.
The Route
All routes begin separately and converge on the final section along the South Gower coastline. The Ultra 50 starts at Mumbles Cricket Club, initially following a flat section around Swansea Bay before heading inland through Clyne Woods and north to Gowerton. The route then rejoins the Coastal Path along the Loughor Estuary. The Ultra Bach joins the course near Llanrhidian. From there, the terrain includes cliff tops, soft trails, dunes, coves, and a crossing of Rhossili Bay. The Trail Race joins at Rhossili, and all three final routes pass through bays and headlands including Port Eynon, Oxwich, and Three Cliffs before finishing.
Event Details
The route mainly follows the signposted Wales Coast Path. Extra markers are placed where the course leaves the path. It is a self-navigated event; runners may use a provided GPS trace, map, and path signs. Checkpoints offer refreshments like water, energy drinks, tea, coffee, and snacks. Coach transport to the Ultra Bach and Trail Race starts is available from Mumbles Cricket Club for an extra fee.
The overall course closes at 22:30. The individual time limits are 15.5 hours for the Ultra 50, 13 hours for the Ultra Bach, and 11.5 hours for the Trail Race. A compulsory kit list must be carried by all runners.
