Gower Coastal Trail Races : Gower Ultra 50, Ultra Bach and Trail Race

The Gower Coastal Trail Races comprise three long-distance trail events that follow the Wales Coast Path within the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Routes pass beaches, bays, coves, farmland, fishing villages, dunes, cliff tops and the wide crossing of Rhossili Bay to Worm's Head, finishing near Rams Tor.

Distances

  • Gower Ultra 50 50 miles - full circumnavigation of the peninsula
  • Gower Ultra Bach 34 miles - joins Ultra route at Llandimore for the final section
  • Gower Trail Race 23 miles - final stretch from Rhossili to Mumbles

The course mainly follows the marked Wales Coast Path; where the route leaves the path extra arrows, flags or marshals are provided. The event is self-navigated using a combination of a GPS trace, Coast Path signs and the route map and instructions. Competitors are responsible for remaining on the advertised route.

There are multiple manned checkpoints offering water, energy drinks, hot drinks and a range of snacks. Provisional checkpoint locations include Dunvant, Llanrhidian, Broughton, Rhossili, Port Eynon, Oxwich Bay, Three Cliffs and Southgate. The Ultra 50, Ultra Bach and Trail Race have published overall time limits in hours.

Coaches run from the Mumbles event base to the race starts and drop-off at starts is possible. There is a compulsory kit list that all competitors must carry regardless of forecast. Entry inclusions note GPS tracking, electronic timing, finishers medal, post-race food, photography and medical cover. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
