Gower Coastal Trail Races - Gower Ultra 50, Ultra Bach & Trail Race

The event comprises three long-distance trail races that follow the Wales Coast Path around the Gower peninsula. Routes pass coastal features such as beaches, bays, coves, cliff tops, dunes, salt marsh and estuary terrain.

  • Gower Ultra 50 50 miles full circumnavigation of the peninsula
  • Gower Ultra Bach 34 miles covering the later two-thirds of the route
  • Gower Trail Race 23 miles covering the final stretch to the finish

The course mainly follows the marked Wales Coast Path. Where the route leaves the Coast Path or where navigation could be difficult, additional arrows, flags or marshals are provided. The event is self-navigated; runners are expected to use a GPS trace, Coast Path signs and the route map and instructions.

There are multiple manned checkpoints offering water, energy drinks, hot drinks, snacks and soup. The number of checkpoints varies by race: eight for the Ultra 50, six for the Ultra Bach and four for the Trail Race. The event provides GPS tracking, electronic timing, a finishers medal and post-race food. A drop bag service is provided to and from Llhanrhidian for Ultra 50 entrants. Compulsory kit must be carried by all competitors regardless of weather. Coach transport is available to the start for the Ultra Bach and Trail Race for a fee and has limited places.

Time limits apply: 15.5 hours for the Ultra 50, 13 hours for the Ultra Bach and 11.5 hours for the Trail Race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
