Two Prairies Ultra is a FAT ASS ULTRA event held near Fort McCoy, FL, at Pat's Island Trailhead in the Ocala Nation Forest (just outside Salt Springs). The event offers two distance options and has no registration fee. Participation is capped at 50 due to limited parking and the wilderness character of the course. Registration opens Dec 1, 2025. Organizers ask participants to carpool if possible.

Course and logistics

The route follows sections of the Florida Trail and visits the Juniper and Hopkins Prairies in the Juniper Wilderness area. The course is arranged as two out-and-back segments: run south 8.8 miles to Juniper Springs Recreation Area and return (17.6 miles roundtrip), then run north 7.25 miles and return (14.5 miles roundtrip). The 30K option covers only the south half of the course.

Directions to the Pat's Island Trailhead are given from the intersection of SR40 and SR19: drive north 5.9 miles on SR19, turn left onto Forest Road 46, then continue 2.2 miles on a dirt road to the trailhead on the right.

Trail support

Run through Ocala in the Painted Horse Urban Ultra, an untimed urban adventure and scavenger hunt with 55k and 25k loop courses visiting dozens of painted horse installations. Navigation heavy and mostly self supported.

Run for the Springs is a community 5K trail run at Silver Springs State Park, featuring scenic forest trails and a family friendly atmosphere. Enjoy a kids area, refreshments and door prizes while supporting local septic grants.

Run the scenic trails at Silver Springs on March 29, 2026 with Half Marathon, 10K, 5K or Virtual options amid river views and wildlife. All finishers receive a tech shirt and medal and top runners earn podium awards.

Run the Skunk Ape in Ocala FL on April 25 to 26 with 50 Mile or 100 Mile options on scenic trails. Expect sandy single track through pine woods and lakes, strong aid station support, with a buckle for 100 Mile runners.
